The kettle is where it begins.

Before the leaf, before the pour, there is water and fire.

The kettle is the foundation. Everything on the table rests on it. Where the water begins decides where the tea arrives.

Cloud Hidden kettles are handcrafted; created by packing ash from a wood fire kiln onto each piece. The kettles resemble the different tones of the earth, from which we all come from and will return to. Each kettle is unique and has been hand-finished with devotion and care.

Made from a highly porous Taiwanese clay, the key function of a kettle is to produce finer water for brewing tea. These clay kettles are fireproof so they can be put directly on a flame.

The Kettle transcends the traditional confines of kettles and teapots. There are three ways to utilise the Kettle.

  1. Kettle: With its compact size and flameproof design, it serves as an ideal kettle for intimate sessions or for those who prefer a smaller kettle.
  2. Teapot: Effortlessly transforming into an exquisite teapot, it features a broad lid and refined spout, perfect for casual gatherings.
  3. Boiling Tea: Moreover, it can be used to boil tea directly within the Kettle. This innovative approach to brewing enables both a ceremonial approach, while also facilitating continuous tea brewing in relaxed settings. Expect a darker, richer brew.

The Kettle holds approximately 1800ml.

An Object Study

The anatomy of a kettle

Every part earns its place. Move through a Cloud Hidden kettle, piece by piece.

The Lid
Every lid is shaped uniquely for its kettle. A bamboo node lets you steady it with one finger, so you can pour to the last drop with a single hand.
The Body + Base
Made from Taiwanese Clay, each shape is crafted by hand for the kettle it belongs to. No two kettles are ever truly the same but all are designed to fit a single brazier.

The Handle
Hold the kettle steady while pouring, with our rope wrapped handle. Made easy to hold and stays cool in the hand.
The Spout
The spout is specially shaped to balance each kettle, so the pour is clean, accurate, and does not drip.

01 · THE CLAY

Softer water, sweeter tea

The clay is the most important part of the kettle, so we did not leave it to chance. Decades of testing went into the blend. It softens the water and takes off the hard edges. Better water, and a sweeter cup.

02 · The heat

Heat resistant, so you can heat the water where you pour it

The clay is heat resistant, so you bring the water to the boil in the kettle itself, then pour straight from it. Heating and pouring from the one vessel is part of what makes the tea better.

Use it almost anywhere. A gas stove. A glass or ceramic cooktop. An induction or infrared burner. Or charcoal, the traditional way.

03 · Designer teaware

Crafted by hand in our own studio in Taiwan

Every kettle is made in the Cloud Hidden studio in Taiwan. The shapes are ours, designed in partnership with the studio to meet the demands of brewing tea the way we do.

These are not pulled from a factory line, and they are not generic pieces sold under a dozen names. Each shape is designed and owned by Cloud Hidden, and it has taken years to get them right.

Three Ways to Brew
Made for smaller teapots and smaller sessions, whether you are brewing gong fu or sitting with tea alone. The wide lid means it also works as a teapot for larger sessions or all-day steeping. You can put the leaf straight in and boil the tea in it, which is perfect when you want to drink tea all day.
A beautifully balanced kettle. It sits between holding enough water for bigger sits and staying smaller and lighter than the 2300 ml. The most fluid of our kettles to pour from: smooth, precise, accurate, and easy to move from hand to hand. The lid has a lip, so it will not fall as you pour. It also heats faster than the 2300 ml. A kettle made to be a kettle.
Our largest kettle. A wide spout for fast pouring, made for larger teapots and bigger sits. It also means fewer kettles on the table: where you might run three 1800 ml kettles, two of these can serve the same room. The wide lid gives you temperature control, just lift it to bring the heat down. You can even boil tea in it for very large sits.

05 · Heirloom Quality

An inheritance for those to come

These are the kettles we use ourselves. Over a million bowls of tea, served across more than twenty years of practice.

A good clay kettle is not disposable. Looked after, it pours for decades, and the best of them last for generations. You are not just buying a kettle. You are buying one you can pass on to loved ones.

MAY YOU FEEL THE EARTH IN YOUR KETTLE.

Compliment Your Kettle with Tea

Slideshow

Find the cloud in your bowl.

The water for your tea was in the sky not so long ago. It fell as rain, met the leaf, and was poured into your bowl. A cloud, hidden in your hands.

100% handcrafted teaware means no two pieces are ever the same.

Just as the steam rises, and is gone. The kettle fills, and empties. This is what makes it precious. And beautiful. Every vessel, cup of tea, and moment only comes once in a lifetime.

Extraordinary is hidden in the ordinary.

Just leaves in a bowl. Add water. How simple it is a cup of tea. And hidden inside that simplicity is so much more.

You are invited for tea.

All Tea is an invitation. Everything here is only that. An invitation.

Nothing more.
